Picked in the early morning hours of December 22 at minus-twelve degrees Celsius with 160° Oechsle, the 2021 Mülheimer Helenenkloster Riesling Eiswein ** offers a brilliant, intense and concentrated nose with grapefruit, lemon and tropical fruit aromas intertwined with notes of crushed stones and passion fruit pips. Very elegant and refined on the palate, with highly elegant fruit and surprisingly mild acidity, this is a beautifully sweet and pristine Eiswein in great balance yet with a savory and saline finish. Now the acidity (16 grams per liter) is singing, but it's still rather in modo classico than rock 'n' roll. A gorgeous Eiswein of which only 100 liters were pressed. 6% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022. 98/100

The 2021er Mülheimer Helenenkloster Riesling Eiswein ** -49-, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made from ripe and clean fruit harvested on December 22 at -11°/-12°C (12°/10°F) and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (220 g/l). It offers a captivating and aromatic nose of rhubarb, prune, blackberry, apricot, licorice, musk, acacia, and herbs. The wine is magnificently well balanced on the palate, where honeyed ripe fruits are wrapped into a ripe zesty acidity. The wine proves very rich and animating, and leaves a clean and vibrating finish. This is a great Eiswein in the making! 96/100
