The 2019 Mengoba Mencía Alicante Bouschet also contain some white grapes from the field blend found in the old vineyards. It comes from different Mencía plots and one Alicante Bouschet vineyard in the village of Espanillo at some 700 meters in altitude. It has an earthy, Rhône-ish profile with some iron and meat notes, faintly animal with hints of fountain pen ink. It has a grainy texture, rustic and earthy, with abundant tannins. It fermented with 20% full clusters in 5,000-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts. The press wine is added to the wine that matured for 16 months. 13,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2021. 93/100
