Fläscher Chardonnay
Adank's 2020 Fläscher Chardonnay grows in a small parcel on the Fläscher Halde. This plot hangs steeply on the Fläscher mountain and roots deep in the poor slate soils with underlying deep alpine limestone. Cultivated by hand and picked as early as possible to keep the freshness, whole-cluster pressed and fermented on the full lees in Burgundian pièces for 12 months (with around 20% new oak), the 2020 opens with a clear and aromatic, fruity but also chalky and flinty bouquet of coolish crushed stones. Very stimulating and complex indeed. On the palate, this is a clear, dense, fresh and tensioned yet also refined and delicate Chardonnay with enormous mineral and phenolic grip as well as sustainable salinity and very fine tannins. This is a superb Chardonnay from Graubünden, and it could be included in any white Burgundy tasting. 13.2% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Zurich in February 2022. 94/100
