The copper-colored 2008 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is somehow both intense and also remarkably fresh. Burnt sugar, caramel, dried herbs and spice all resonate in this vivid, deeply expressive wine. As always, Fontodi excels with a rich, unctuous style of Vin Santo. The 2008, though, has terrific freshness and more than enough acidity to play off the richer elements. The 110 grams per liter of residual sugar are not especially evident. This is a spectacular Vin Santo by any measure. 97/100

Fontodi-ejendommen ligger i nærheden af Panzano i hjertet af Chianti Classico-regionen og er et af Toscanas absolutte flagskibe. Herfra kan man se ud over Conca d'Oro, "guldbassinet" syd for Panzano, dalen, hvis navn i årtier har stået for de pragtfulde sydvendte skråninger i vinmarkerne.
