The 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Tradition gives the impression of dusty earth and finely ground spices on the nose, all coating a core of ripe cherries. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and concentrated, with nice grip and persistence on the finish, where it picks up hints of cocoa powder and ground cloves. It's turned out even better—more structured and complete—than I expected after last year's visit to the estate. 92/100

Deep ruby-red. Ripe, spice-accented red and dark berry scents, along with hints of succulent herbs and flowers. Broad and fleshy on entry, offering appealingly sweet cherry and black raspberry flavors that tighten up through the midpalate. Smooth, even tannins build on a long, spicy finish that strongly echoes the berry and floral notes. 92/100

Moving to the reds and starting with the classic 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape, this checks in as 75% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvèdre, partially destemmed and brought up in a mix of demi-muid and foudre. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a deep, smoky, meaty bouquet that has beautiful fruit as well as loads of ground pepper nuances. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has no hard edges, and a great finish. Drink it on release and over the following decade. 90-92
