Indtil for få år siden var det den absolutte leder sammen med La Lagune i Haut-Medoc-appellationen. I mellemtiden har Charmail, du Retout og frem for alt Clos Manou fuldstændig overhalet dem i Medoc. Lad os se, hvad der sker med 2014. Næsen er bestemt spændende - sort og rød frugt, cassis og ribs. Flot spænding mellem frugtkomponenterne. Kirsebær i flere lag. Utrolig smuk, spændt mund med høj mineralitet, rød og sort frugt, der leger om hinanden. Kirsebær, ribs, koncentreret hindbær. Også sorte kirsebær og cassis. Alt forbliver fint. Stenet, salt mineralitet, altid fin og vedholdende. Smuk længde. Vinen slutter på ribs med en cremet, kridtagtig, salt finish. Den mangler lidt kød i midten for at være rigtig stor, men den er ret perfekt i sin charme. Men helt sikkert en meget flot Chateau Sociando-Mallet og en ode til glæden.

The 2014 Sociando-Mallet is medium to deep garnet in color. Notes of blackcurrant jelly and prunes hop from the glass, giving way to nuances of candied violets, star anise, and mossy tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly crafted and refreshing, with a firm, grainy backbone and long, earthy finish.

Already on the nose there’s another level of complexity and sophistication to the other wines from this appellation. Although it starts quite discreetly on the palate, it expands as fast as the universe did just after the Big Bang until the multidimensional finish almost overwhelms you! Best in years. Better in 2020. Tasted in February 2017. 95/100

The 2014 Sociando-Mallet put in a great performance in barrel. Now in bottle, the sophistication is evident on the nose with beautifully defined black fruit tinged with cedar and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin, a silver bead of acidity and superb focus towards the finish. The energy here is superb and it tempts you back immediately for another sip. Probably a Sociano-Mallet that will drink young, yet there is the class to suggest it will age supremely well. 92/100
