Dolcetto D'Alba Bricco Lago
The 2023 Dolcetto D'Alba Bricco Lago was a wine I was excited by at last year’s first tasting at the estate, and it did not disappoint at this tasting. In the glass, it’s a youthful magenta hue and is fantastic with pure notes of wild berries, cherries, wet stones, violets, and fresh peppery spice. In the cellar, they incorporated 60% whole cluster in the fermentation, and while it perhaps adds some spice, the wine is seamless, with a silky texture, and never moves towards astringency. The palate is medium-bodied and refreshing, with a fantastic stony and silky mineral texture. While last year’s release of the 2022 was certainly delicious and very well-crafted, this release takes the energy up a notch and is a slight departure in terms of style, which they are making a mark with. A must-try option for readers who love Cru Beaujolais, this is the direction that the top Dolcetto of the region is headed in, crafted by some of the best, and I highly encourage readers to seek these wines out. Drink 2025-2035.
