A saturated red/purple color, the 2016 Tinata is potent in the glass, with concentrated and layered aromatics of pine sap, plum, menthol, and cracked pepper. Full-bodied, it has mouthwatering ripe acidity, well-defined tannins, and a long, pure finish. This is an exceptional vintage of this cuvée that’s worthy of cellaring further and drinking over the coming 10-15 years. Bottle 5915 of 6255.

Here’s a happy surprise from the Tuscan Coast and definitely one of the most memorable samples I tasted from this region this year. The 2016 Tinata is a beautifully balanced blend of Syrah and Grenache that hits all its proverbial nails on the head. I admire the fullness and generosity of the wine (that is never heavy), its depth and complexity (that is never banal) and its power (that is not overblown). You get the savory fullness of Syrah with black fruit, tobacco, smoke and spice and some of the vertical freshness of the Grenache. The tannins are softly textured to the point of being creamy. It gives me great joy to enthusiastically recommend this exciting wine from Monteverro. 95/100

Plenty of fresh, crushed raspberries and currants with hints of wood. Medium to full body. Fine tannins and a clean finish. Syrah and grenache. Drink or hold. 93/100
