Molitor's 2016 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Kabinett "Fuder 6" (White Capsule) offers a fascinatingly intense, ripe and concentrated Riesling bouquet intertwined with very fine slate and flinty aromas. This nose already indicates a great, terroir-driven Kabinett. Silky and highly finessed on the palate, this is a salty-crystalline, beautifully balanced and piquant Sonnenuhr with grip and structure. The finish is powerful, long and complex, showing great aging potential. The grapes are sourced from over 80-year-old vines in the Scheeren, the upper part of the Schiesswingert—between the sundial and the old castle—where the grapes don't reach high must weights. The grapes were basket-pressed, and the clear must was fermented in oak. Bottled July 2017. Tasted March 2018. 93+/100
