Heiner Lobenberg om:
Brunello di Montalcino 2019
/100

The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino pours a jeweled ruby color and has more concentration than the 2018, but it's going to need time to reach its full potential of complexity. Rich notes of kirsch, licorice, sapid herbs, and dark stones are followed by a medium to full-bodied red that's deep and rich through the palate, with ripe and noble tannins, a seamless feel, and a long-lasting finish. A profound wine and one of the best of the vintage, give it some time while drinking the 2018s and 2020s.

Colin Hay om: Brunello di Montalcino
First released through La Place in December 2023. This is radiant aromatically and even more impressive than the 2018 that had me in raptures this time last year. It’s also a little more restrained and one has more of the sensation that there is very much more to come beyond the fresh flush of youth that is immediately on display, beautiful though that is. There’s a gracious gentle natural sweetness, like the first warming touches of the sun’s rays after a clear summer’s night. There is also a beautiful combination of floral and herbal aromatics gently enrobing the red cherry, loganberry and strawberry fruit. On the palate this forms an almost perfect and quite ample cylinder in the mouth, slightly pushing at the cheeks and then the most silky ultra-fine-grained tannins arrive, subtly but authoritatively sculpting the contours of the mid-palate but never penetrating the crystalline, glacial tranquillity of the cool centre. The rose petal and saffron notes from the nose return on the finish which is sustained all the way to a very distant vanishing point on the horizon. Very special and utterly fabulous. 99/100

Parker om: Brunello di Montalcino
The Poggio di Sotto 2019 Brunello di Montalcino remains a little closed, even rigid, at the moment. It can be compared to the cool 2013 and 2016 vintages that both required an extra five or six years before they started to shine. However, there's no escaping the power that remains just under the surface. You feel it budding and yearning to break free. Dark fruit aromas fold into crushed stone, grilled rosemary and blue flower. It's fun to taste this wine next to the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva because you really see how much further this vintage will require in the cellar. Both wines remain tight and nervous at this point but are full of potential.
The Wine Independent om: Brunello di Montalcino
The aromas of the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino are captivating, unfolding layers of floral elegance with hints of rose, violet, and lavender, complemented by notes of ripe strawberry and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it offers a silky, refined tannins paired with understated strength, seamlessly balanced by a remarkable vibrancy and freshness that lingers effortlessly on the balanced finish, which seems to never end. Winemaker Leonardo Berti states that the 2019 was almost "too easy" and as the differentiation for Rosso, Normale, and Riserva are made in the cellar, it was a difficult year to decide as the quality was so high throughout.

Decanter om: Brunello di Montalcino
Despite heavy rain, there was very little disease in 2019 and the hot summer brought the grapes to full ripeness. The subdued cherry aromas reflect the wine's youth, though they became more expressive with aeration. The palate is rich but sleek in texture, with polished tannins and fine acidic lift. The texture is grainy without being tough, and there's so much energy and grip here that the wine clearly has great ageing potential. Very long, with a lightly peppery finish. A majestic end to the decade.

Suckling om: Brunello di Montalcino
Sweet cherry and flower aromas with some orange peel and lilac character. Medium-bodied with pretty depth and focus. Ripe, fine tannins and an attractive finish. Subtle richness and class. From organically grown grapes. Give this three or four years to come around. Best after 2025. 96/100

Galloni om: Brunello di Montalcino
Dusty roses, worn leather, dried strawberries and arid earth form a classic bouquet as the dynamic 2019 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is feminine yet deep and textural, with ripe plums and black cherries motivated by brisk acidity. Violet inner florals and licorice hints form toward the close. The 2019 leaves a salty mineral staining to mingle with fine-grained tannins and spice, as it finishes with incredible length, yet still so fresh. This is incredibly youthful and inward today, but the potential is off the charts. I expect the 2019 to put on some weight and blossom over the next five to ten years. Glorious. 96/100
