Mondot 2019 er meget mere end bare en andenvin. Ligesom for eksempel Les Forts de Latour kommer den fra vores egne parceller, her fra det højtliggende kalkstensplateau omkring Troplong-Mondot - terroir i verdensklasse. Og 2019 viser på imponerende vis, hvad dette terroir er i stand til. Mondot er straks kridtholdig, blomsteragtig og rødfrugtet i næsen: røde kirsebær, skovjordbær, hindbær, blommer, rose, vilde urter, et strejf af grafit, våde sten og underskov. Kombinationen af fin sødme og køligt krydderi er typisk for ren Merlot fra kalksten - saftig, men aldrig tung. I munden er 2019 silkeblød og utrolig charmerende. Tanninerne er polerede, men med nok greb til at give struktur. Aromatisk dominerer den rødfrugtige, krystalklare linje: røde kirsebær, jordbær, hyben, lidt blåbær, ledsaget af blodappelsin, fint krydderi og en livlig, saftig syre, der bærer vinen. Mondot 2019 er lys, mineralsk, præcis og legende uden at fornægte dybden af sit store terroir. Frugten er klar og uforfalsket, eftersmagen er saftig, lang og let saltet med en spændende blanding af røde bær og det karakteristiske mineralske greb fra kalkstenen. Meget elegant!

The 2019 Mondot derives from Merlot growing on newly acquired vineyards on Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau that can't be included in the grand vin until the region's new classification is finalized. Offering up aromas of wild berries, rose petals and coniferous forest floor, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent, with a supple, charming profile and a penetrating finish.

Such a sense of the limestone terroir on the nose and palate here with wet stone and graphite nuances edged with perfumed red cherries. Super smooth with a grippy but gentle texture. Well integrated tannins are lifted by the serious succulence on the mid palate, this is juicy and bright but also layered with strawberry, red cherry and blueberry fruit. Playful but also well controlled and well presented. The finish is lasting and impactful. A perky wine that is stylish and so moreish.

The 2023 Mondot was aged in foudre and one‑year‑old oak, without any new oak, and is deep garnet‑purple in color. It swans out of the glass with gregarious notes of juicy plums and black raspberries, leading to hints of lavender oil, underbrush, and charcoal, plus a touch of wild sage. The medium‑ to full‑bodied palate delivers great tension with bright black and red berry flavors and plush tannins, finishing long with a spicy lift.

Fragrant plum and peony aromatics, a little closed on the palate, feel that limestone grip straight away, get the chalky edge to the tannins and the slightly austere but juicy slate-scraping raspberry fruits. A wine with personality and one that speaks of its soils. For now all Merlot from entirely limestone soils, but Cabernet Franc may be added in from 2022, so if you like this style of Mondot, make the most of it now! 35% one year old barrels, 70% stainless steel.

The 2019 Mondot is plush, silky and delicious, just as it was en primeur. Bright red-toned fruit, cinnamon, mint, crushed rocks, blood orange and exotic spice lend gorgeous primary intensity. Soft contours and bright acids give the 2019 tons of appeal and sheer vibrancy. Aging 60% in barrel and 40% in tank, is an approach that preserves quite a bit of freshness.
