This selected 600-liter lot of late-picked Saumagen Auslese, which won’t be released for several years, offers candied ginger accents to its rich quince, mango, Persian melon and banana – no doubt a reflection of both botrytis and site-typical spiciness. The feel here is creamy, glycerol-rich, and almost buttery, yet the sense of delicacy goes beyond even that of the corresponding “regular” Auslese. Lily-like perfume wafts throughout the entire buoyant, pure performance, while high-toned, Chartreuse-like suggestions of distilled herbal essences lend further inner-mouth allure. Orange peel, licorice and black tea serve for counterpoint on a lusciously, seductively soothing finish whose sweetness is entirely supportive. 94/100
