Swartland Winery lies north of Cape Town close to the town of Malmesbury. Over the past 70 years the winery has changed from a cooperative cellar into a private wine company, following the wine-growing revival in the region. Fruit for this wine is harvested from farms spread across the hills around Malmesbury. Fermentation in stainless steel and maturation in 25% new French oak barrels over 12 months. Greg Sherwood MW: Bright, lifted nose, plenty of red and pink flowers, cured meats, grilled herbs and red berry coulis. Deliciously vibrant, fleshy, wonderful harmony and elegance. Lovely wine. Daniel Grigg: Rose petal and tar, almost Nebbiolo-esque; bramble leaf and cinnamon, nutmeg, wet beachside pebbles. Roger Jones: Cola on first nose, rose perfume, fruit-forward with a luscious mid-palate of gentle fruit, seamless and fresh, focused with a backdrop of spice, savouriness and soft herbs. 95/100
