Rondevlei er David & Nadias nye enkeltvinmark Chenin Blanc fra de tørre, ret ufrugtbare flade områder i Swartland. Druerne indgik i Aristargos-blandingen til og med 2020-årgangen. Vinstokkene i Mini-parcellen blev plantet i 1984. Lagringen foregår dels i beton og dels i brugt træ. Selv næsen er ultrapræcis. Røget, salt mineralitet spiller sammen med saftige fersken- og æblearomaer. En totalt spændende reduktion, som får mig til at blive ved med at snuse til glasset. Unik! I munden er der salt citron og sprød syre. Min mund løber bogstaveligt talt i vand. Der er ingen tvivl om, at denne vin vil fortsætte med at vokse i fedme og kompleksitet i løbet af de næste par år. Det, som dette unge par bringer til flasken, er virkelig godt! Desværre er der kun 1.859 flasker til rådighed, og vinen er strengt allokeret. 96/100

As vineyards go, Rondevlei sounds relatively unexciting - it's a flat, 1.7-hectare parcel on red sand, but the wine it produces is thrilling. Made with five different components, it’s what David Sadie calls a "salt-driven" Chenin Blanc, with a noticeably maritime influence. Sappy and slightly ferrous, it has notes of kelp and citrus and a focused, tangy, engaging finish. 2024-29 95/100

Chamomile, pineapples, hints of pine cone and lemons on the nose. Medium-bodied with a creamy, almost oily texture while retaining fantastic freshness. Bright, tight finish. Drink or hold. 95/100

Decanter om: Chenin Blanc Rondevlei

This Certified Heritage Vineyard, planted in 1984, produces a characterful, idiosyncratic wine from sandy soils to the west of Malmesbury, close to the Atlantic. David Sadie describes it as ‘an oasis in the desert'. Harvested in three separate pickings, this is aromatically elusive at first, with a mineral, stony nose and notes of white pepper and green pear. It opens with time in the glass to reveal green banana, mango, cherry stones, crystallised lime and a touch of lemongrass. The palate is shaped by edgy, nervous acidity, with a lightly briny note and a hint of capers on the finish. A little spiky right now, and slightly lean in the middle, but intriguing and rewarding to follow in the glass.

The 2022 Chenin Blanc Rondevlei comes from vines planted in 1984, and 40% of the blend was aged in concrete egg, the remainder in used barrels. It has a lovely nose, really complex, with marmalade and touches of aniseed and blackcurrant leaf. Very delineated and pure. The palate is very well-balanced with a crisp line of acidity, lemony and tensile, with an energetic, quite sustained finish. One of my picks from David & Nadia this vintage. 94/100

David Sadie og hans kone Nadia mødtes, da de studerede ønologi og vinmanagement sammen på universitetet i Stellenbosch. David er født i Swartland og er fjernt beslægtet med Sydafrikas vinsuperstjerne Eben Sadie (Sadie er oprindeligt et tyskfødt navn).
