Galloni om: Cote Rotie Maestria (Les Journaries)

Inky ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and dark berries, licorice, exotic spices and potpourri and shows outstanding definition. Stains the palate with appealingly sweet black raspberry, blueberry and cherry preserve flavors that slowly tighten up on the back half. Shows superb energy and floral lift on an impressively long, focused finish shaped by steadily mounting tannins. This is quite a powerful wine (about 70% of the fruit comes from La Landonne, by the way) for one that checks in at only 13% alcohol. Made entirely with whole clusters. 95/100

Jeb Dunnuck om: Cote Rotie Maestria (Les Journaries)

Both of these 2017s were purchased at retail in the US. Starting with the 2017 Côte Rôtie Les Journaries, this cuvée comes from the La Landonne lieu-dit. It's not destemmed and was brought up in used oak. A gorgeous perfume of red and blue fruits, spring flowers, smoked game, wild herbs, and pepper all give way to medium to full-bodied, exotic, pure, old school beauty that just sings of Syrah. It has an elegant, seamless style that's already hard to resist, yet it builds on the palate, has bright acidity, and ample tannins, all promising a long life. Give bottles 2-4 years in a cold cellar and enjoy over the following 15-20 years. 94/100
