Heiner Lobenberg om:
Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe 2020

96–97

Lakrids og sorte kirsebær dominerer over cassis. Medium krop, salt kalksten i længden. 96-97/100

The Wine Independent om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Villemaurine is a little shy and reticent to begin, soon unfurling to reveal notes of pencil shavings, Chinese five spice, and fallen leaves, followed by a core of Morello cherries, plum preserves, and lilacs. The densely laden, full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit and floral layers, framed by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long and perfumed. 96/100

Forbes om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

An 80/20 Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend. Rich, vibrant, sweet, juicy aromas of cherries, country lane bramble, peat and slight eucalyptus. In the mouth a beautifully balanced, open, succulent and silky wine with flavors of black and sour cherries mid palate, figs and licorice on the finish. Well integrated tannins and acidity. Pair with teriyaki steak with rice, or roast beef with provolone cheese. 94-96/100

Galloni om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

The 2020 Villemaurine is fabulous, just as it was en primeur. More than anything else, Villemaurine balances fruit intensity with energy, a pretty appealing combination in my book. Freshly cut flowers, mint, blood orange, rose petal and lavender are all woven together in a wine that sizzles with tension and energy. Tasted two times.

Neal Martin om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

The 2020 Villemaurine has a lovely bouquet with fine delineation and terroir expression, red and black fruit, crushed stone and light orange pith aromas. A second bottle exudes more of the Cabernet Franc and imparts a Medocian tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy with a velvety texture, and great depth. It conveys wonderful detail on the finish. Excellent.

Parker om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

The 2020 Villemaurine sports a very deep purple-black color, springing from the glass with vibrant notes of black cherry preserves, ripe black plums and wild blueberries, plus touches of Indian spices, menthol and cedar chest with a waft of fragrant earth. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy with a lively backbone to lift the seductive exotic spices to a nice long and harmonious finish. The blend this year is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aging for an anticipated 16 months in French oak, 80% new. The alcohol is 14.5%. 93-95/100

Wine Cellar Insider om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

Richly colored, the nose is filled with dark chocolate, licorice, smoke, black cherry, plum and herbs get the wine moving. On the palate the wine is lush, fleshy, sweet, ripe and polished, finishing with opulently textured fruits and freshness. This is the last vintage for Justin Onclin as the owner. The estate was sold earlier this year. 93-95/100

Jeb Dunnuck om: Chateau Villemaurine Grand Cru Classe

The 2020 Château Villemaurine has a modern vibe, but it’s impeccably made, and I suspect will show plenty of classic Saint-Emilion character at maturity. Lots of pure cassis and blue fruits as well as notes of espresso, vanilla, and flowers define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with beautiful purity, perfectly integrated acidity and tannins, and a great finish. I tasted this on three separate occasions and rated it as high as 97 points for one bottle, but I’m being conservative with the barrel review. Regardless, it’s a smoking good wine. 93-95/100

Chateau Villemaurine
