Ifølge direktør Pontallier er 2011 en af de mindste høster i historien og den mest koncentrerede vin i vingårdens historie. Udbyttet var mindre end 30 hl/ha. De høstede druer var bittesmå, mindre end din håndflade, og bærrene var ekstremt små. Vinen er enormt tæt, masser af moden blomme, lidt cassis, brombær, morbær, men ikke sød, i stedet intens og pressende. Udstråler en masse koncentreret kraft. Ifølge direktøren mere tannin end i 2009 og 2010, hvilket er svært at tro, men en utrolig tæthed og koncentration kan også mærkes i munden. Fløjlsagtig og blød, men også utrolig tæt. Sort skovfrugt, tranebær, blåbær, alt sammen indtagende, alt sammen dækkende, salt mineralitet, der næsten ikke kommer igennem. Og så masser af syre i den salte finish. Alt i alt en fantastisk vin, som er helt anderledes end de to charmerende søde tidligere årgange, men som også vil være en af vingårdens store vine. Det er i hvert fald en af de få vine i årgangen, som har potentiale til at opnå en topkarakter. Den er i hvert fald stor på sin helt egen måde.

The 2011 Chateau Margaux is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It was quite a warm vintage and the earliest harvest since 1893, starting on the 5th of September, with very small, concentrated berries. "Like a young version of the 1995, it needed time for the tannins to soften," commented winemaker Philippe Bascaules. It has a deep garnet color and shoots out of the glass with notes of plum preserves, blackcurrant pastilles, and boysenberry preserves, leading to hints of black tea, star anise, clove oil, and cardamom, with a touch of menthol. The medium-bodied palate is packed with layers of evocative black and red berry preserves, supported by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.

Administrator Paul Pontallier is nearly embarrassed to explain the amazing success of the 2011 Chateau Margaux, a candidate for wine of the vintage. With the harvest occurring between September 5-20, it was the smallest crop in over twenty years as yields were cut significantly by the drought. The berries were tiny. Moreover, analytically, the 2011 has a higher level of concentration as well as tannins than the 2009. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, only 38% of the harvest made it into the grand vin. The wine offers an inky/purple color, barely noticeable sweet tannin, and a beautiful nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers and lead pencil shavings backed up by fresh acids and good overall structure. This medium to full-bodied effort possesses tremendous personality and character. It rivals what they achieved in both 2010 and 2009, which is virtually impossible to contemplate given the quality of those two vintages.
