Figeac 2024 består af 33 procent Merlot, 28 procent Cabernet Franc og 39 procent Cabernet Sauvignon. Høsten af cabernet sauvignon varede meget længe, helt frem til 5. oktober. 13 volumenprocent, pH-værdi 3,66. Kun 30 hektoliter pr. hektar udbytte. Udvælgelsen var radikal her. Vi ventede, indtil botrytis så ud til at være helt sikker på, at vi havde nået fuld modenhed. Derefter blev kun de bedste bær udvalgt i et sukkervandsbad. Optisk lasersortering blev tilføjet på forhånd. Næsen er helt rød frugt med surkirsebær, slåen og røde vilde hindbær. Høj intensitet, syngende, mineralsk og salt i næsen. Store aromaer, men ikke pompøse, bare tætte, frugtagtige og erotiske. Med en mineralsk-saltet hale - det skaber vibrationer i næsen. Brug venligst Bourgogne-glas. I munden er vinen først og fremmest Château Figeac. Så utroligt typisk! Med denne Cabernet Sauvignon- og Cabernet Franc-tilgang, med denne røde frugt og mineralitet. Fantastisk elegant og legende, endda salt. Silkebløde, fløjlsagtige tanniner. Ikke helt så tæt på mellemgulvet som i 2022 eller 2023, men med mere levende finesse. Balancen er fremragende, træhåndteringen er perfekt. En meget elegant vin! **** Figeac ligger på et 40 hektar stort grusplateau overfor Cheval Blanc. Der produceres næsten 100.000 flasker i alt på Figeac. 70 procent af området dyrkes økologisk og er certificeret som miljøvenligt. Denne certificering - uden at gå i streng Demeter-tjeneste - vokser hurtigt i Frankrig. 2021 er den første årgang, der vinificeres i Figeacs nye kældre. Spontan gæring, modning i 100 procent nye barriques.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2024 Figeac opens with classic notes of cassis, kirsch, pencil shavings, and violets, leading to nuances of mint tea and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is dense with tightly wound black and red berry flavors, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and wonderful tension, finishing very long with lots of mineral and floral sparks. An absolute triumph in this vintage. Tasted twice with consistent score and notes.

Pungent notes of cigar box, tobacco, flowers, truffles, spices, cherries, licorice, currants, and plums fill the perfume. On the palate, the wine is elegant, fresh, spicy, and vibrant. The fruits are vivacious, crisp, and juicy, with a salty edge and a sprig of mint on the back end of the finish. This modern, classically styled wine can be enjoyed after just a few years in the bottle or aged for 2-3 decades with ease. Clearly, this is one of the stars of the vintage. The wine blends 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Press wine. 12.7% ABV, 3.66 pH. Picking took place September 6 - October 5. Drink from 2029-2055.

Based on 33% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, and 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2024 Château Figeac reveals a classic Figeac nose of ripe blue fruits, sappy tobacco, flowers, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, it has a fabulous, seamless mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, beautiful balance, and a great finish. To have this level of quality in a vintage like 2024 is mind-blowing, and this is one of the top handful of wines in the vintage.

Perhaps the most beautiful nose of the entire en primeur campaign at this stage. Gloriously elegant and enticing. So naturally expressive without any need for aeration. Gently sweet-scented with a note of saffron and walnut alongside the black cherries, damson and blueberry fruit profile. Violet and peony, wisteria and lily. With aeration this becomes a little fresher with the proportion of berry fruits seeming to rise as the cherries and fruits of the forest recede just a little. That gives a hint as to the tension and the source of the tension in the wine. The oak is present and there is a subtle hint of vanilla but it serves to support the gentle florality – wisteria and lily of the valley above all. With aeration, too, more and more cedar. On the palate, assorted dark berries but also, less present on the aromatics, raspberry, loganberry and strawberry. Ample in its frame, spherical and pushing at the cheeks, yet always retaining the purity and the precise crystallinity that sets this apart as really one of the wines of the vintage. The oak is still integrating but this is just a question of time. -

Chateau Figeac er en smuk landejendom på grusplateauet i Saint Emilion med 40 hektar vinmarker skråt over for Cheval Blanc. Nærheden til Cheval Blanc afspejles også i vinen - især i gode år. Den tidligere ejer Thierry Manoncourt, som desværre gik bort i 2010, mente endda, at hans vin var den fineste...
