Vi smagte Brane Cantenac og Cantenac Brown side om side. Og her med den brune har vi en meget mere typisk Margaux i glasset. Klart mere centreret om den røde, sødmefulde, varme frugt. Røde og sorte kirsebær veksler konstant. Vinmarksfersken og grapefrugt tilføjes. Let lakrids, lakrids. Alt er silkeblødt, elegant, meget poleret og charmerende. En varm, jordagtig base, der er typisk for Margaux. Denne søde varme er næsten atypisk for årgangen, og appellationen ser ud til at have ramt den særligt godt. Dette er super chic! Overraskende nok ser jeg den prangende elegante, hedonistiske Cantenac Brown ikke langt efter Brane Cantenac i 2021. Brown er mere på den legende, elegante og hedonistiske side, Brane bestemt mere dybde og skubber til kompleksiteten. 94-95/100 *** Som i de fleste regioner i Europa er tendensen i Bordeaux "2021 - tilbage til klassikerne!". Efter flere varme år i træk kommer 2021 rundt om hjørnet her med genial, kølig elegance og lave alkoholniveauer. Meget elegant, fin, men også fuld af spænding - et absolut drømmeår for finessedrikkere. Vinene viser en masse aromatisk frugtudtryk med en virkelig moden tanninstruktur takket være den længere vækstsæson. Et stort lettelsens suk blandt alle vinbønder, da resultatet er en slags kompensation for det hårde arbejde i vinmarken, som naturen krævede af alle involverede fra begyndelsen til slutningen af året. Meget nedbør i begyndelsen af året, hvilket også var en velsignelse for de tørre jorde. Derefter endnu en lav temperatur i april, lige efter knopskydningen. Bordelais blev dog ikke helt så hårdt ramt, frostskaderne her var i gennemsnit ikke så ødelæggende som i andre dele af Frankrig, og derfor er udbyttet stadig tilfredsstillende samlet set. Merlot'en er usædvanlig ædel med bemærkelsesværdig koncentreret frugt, mens Cabernet'en er utrolig intens og frisk, hvilket giver årgangen stor elegance. Måske på linje med 2008, 2012 og 2014 med deres vine, som allerede er så forførende tilgængelige som unge, men som også har en lang fremtid foran sig.

Gorgeous fragrance and florality on the nose with ripe and perfumed black fruit and some peony touches. Smooth and supple, with finesse and concentration to the berry and cherry fruit. A lovely, almost creamy aspect to the texture with just-gripping and spiced tannins towards the finish, a nice aspect of oak throughout showing the ageing potential. I like this a lot. Easy to enjoy with tons of personality. 94/100

This is upright and chewy on the palate. The tannins are well wrapped in toasty, oak-induced flavours that are perhaps a bit too dominant at this stage. The long finish is energetic. 93-94/100

Ruby red depth to the colour with violet edging. Not as luxurious as the past few years of Cantenac Brown have been, but excellent quality, well put together, finessed and powerful with black cherry fruits and raspberry puree, with tiny pulses of lemongrass acidity. 60% new oak barrels for ageing. 93/100

Complex nose of spiced apples, dried oranges, herbs, flint and cloves. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity. Layered. Lovely cream and spice at the end with just-ripe fruit. Drink now. 93/100

The 2021 Cantenac Brown is another fine effort from a Margaux estate that's been on something of a roll of late. Unwinding in the glass with notions of cassis, wild berries, loamy soil and cigar box, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, with good concentration, lively acids and a nicely defined finish. José Sanfins and his team opted to wait to pick the estate's Cabernet Sauvignon between the fourth and 12th of October, and that appears to have paid off. The blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, and just over half the estate's production went into the grand vin. 92-94/100

The 2021 Cantenac Brown is going to require time to come together. The Cabernet is pushed up. That very much comes through in the wine's aromatic profile and overall intensity. Sweet red-fleshed fruit, tobacco, incense and rose petal are some of the many notes that build. Vibrant and exquisitely layered, Cantenac Brown is quite promising. Élevage will be critical. Like so many of his colleagues, Technical Director José Sanfins saignéed the Merlots, lightly chaptalized the Cabernets and opted for longer but gentler extractions. Tasted two times. 92-94/100

Flowers, espresso, cocoa, and black currants are what you find on the nose. The wine is soft, round, and polished on the medium/full-bodied palate, finishing with more of that dark cocoa, roasted coffee, black cherry, and a hit of peppery spice on the backend. Drink from The wine is a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot. 13.2% ABV, 3.75 pH. The harvest took place September 23-October 4. Drink from 2024-2032. 92-94/100

I 1754 købte Jacques Boyd (husk Boyd Cantenac!), en irsk emigrant, disse vinmarker. I 1806 giftede John Lewis Brown (ejer af Château Brown i Pessac) sig ind i Boyd-familien, og hans søn blev senere en meget berømt kunstner i regionen.
