Heiner Lobenberg om:
Chateau Cantenac Brown 3eme Cru 2023

95
/100

71,5 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 % Merlot, 1,5 % Cabernet Franc.

Impressive precision to this, offering blackcurrants, blackberries and cherries, as well as hints of cedar and dark fruit. Medium to full body. Creamy and fine tannins. Better than 2022.

Jeff Leve om: Chateau Cantenac Brown 3eme Cru

2023 is the first vintage produced in the new, state-of-the-art gravity cellars, which really made a difference this year. Sporting a dark hue, the intense aromatic profile shoots out its blackberry, espresso, flowers, cherries, and truffle with only a single swirl. On the palate, the wine is opulent, powerful, rich, and intense, yet, it is also light on its feet due to its complementing acidities. The finish is long, intense, energetic, and rich, with layers of sweet, polished, luscious fruits, with just a hint of spice, and peppery cocoa on the back end. The wine is a blend of 71.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 1.5% Petit Verdot. 13.6% ABV, 3.64 pH. The Grand Vin was produced using only 52% of the harvest. Picking took place September 7 - October 6, making this the longest harvest in the history of the estate. Drink from 2029-2055. 94-96 Pts.

Colin Hay om: Chateau Cantenac Brown 3eme Cru

(Margaux; 71.5% Cabernet Sauvignon; 27% Merlot; 1.5% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 38.5 hl/ha; 13.5% alcohol; tasted at the UGC press tasting at the Cité du Vin). Very pretty and very floral, with assorted freshly picked wild field flowers, wild herbs and a gentle dark berry fruit generously enrobed in cedar. There’s a little black cherry too. On the palate, it’s the lovely crystallinity of the mouth-feel that wows – and gosh, does it wow! Fluid, sinuous where Brane is more direct and linear, with a little less extraction too but the same gracious tannins. Very fine indeed. Very juicy. The competition amongst the top Margaux grands vins is, like the wines they have produced, intense. Bring it on!

Tim Atkin om: Chateau Cantenac Brown 3eme Cru

Deep and brooding aromas a little occluded by the spiciness of oak. Powerful cassis black fruit underneath. Wonderful velvet texture with super-ripe saturated tannins and lush spices. Dense and concentrated woodsmoke, cassis, briar and sweet tobacco. Palate coating tannins on the finish. This will be for the long term but has a terrific depth, poise and extract. Very good indeed. A wonderful testament to the completion of the excellent new chai and restoration of the building, finished and inaugurated this year.

Galloni om: Chateau Cantenac Brown 3eme Cru

The 2023 Cantenac Brown is concentrated, ample and generous right out of the gate. Blackberry, incense, new leather, tobacco, menthol and chocolate are all amplified to the maximum. As is often the case, Cantenac Brown is one of the more extroverted wines in Margaux. It's a style that works so well. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2023 needs time to shed some of its baby fat.

Parker om: Chateau Cantenac Brown 3eme Cru

The first vintage produced in the estate's new state-of-the-art winery, the 2023 Cantenac Brown has turned out very well indeed, offering up aromas of dark berries, pencil shavings and violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered palate that's serious and precise, concluding with a long, resonant finish. This blend of 71.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 1.5% Cabernet Franc represents 52% of the estate's production; and it reflects both the new winery's enhanced capabilities, along with the presence of old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon derived from holdings recently acquired in the heart of the plateau of Margaux.

Min vinmager

Cantenac Brown
