60 procent Merlot og 40 procent Cabernet Franc. Omkring 38 hektoliter udbytte pr. hektar, så der er ikke meget tab her. 13 procent alkohol i volumen. Meget flot kirsebærnæse med sorte og røde kirsebær. Fin og velduftende. Minder lidt om Domaine de Chevalier fra Pessac. Meget burgundisk vin i næsen. Denne smarte, fine elegance i munden såvel som i næsen. Meget burgundisk og fin med medium længde. Men syren og kalkstensmineraliteten i eftersmagen er imponerende. En meget god Saint-Émilion, selv om den kæmper lidt i sammenligning med sine direkte naboer. Château Coutet er helt klart en klasse over, selv om den kun koster en brøkdel af prisen. Med samme terroir. Alt i alt en rigtig god Angélus, som dog ikke helt lever op til sin Premier Cru Classé A-status. En elegant, god og spændende vin uden nogen egentlig storhed. *** Ejeren af Château Angélus er den karismatiske vinbonde Hubert de Boüard, som har flere jern i ilden med Bellevue, Fleur de Boüard og Clos Boüard. Vinmarkerne på Angélus ligger på de lavere skråninger i Mazerat-dalen på kalkholdig lerjord og blandet ler- og sandjord i en førsteklasses sydlig eksponering. Kun de ældste vinstokke, over 60 år gamle, er plantet her. For Angélus - som for alle topslotte i Saint-Émilion - er Cabernet Franc gradvist ved at blive den dominerende drue i cuvéerne. Modningsprocessen på Angélus er nu ekstremt reduktiv, idet især Cabernet Franc kun modnes i 3200 liters træfade. Vinene er derfor meget mere reduktive og viser betydeligt flere violer og blomsteraromaer og mindre sort frugt.

Very classy, the transparency of this Angelus giving brilliance to the pure fruit in such a difficult growing season. Medium-bodied, it has a compacted palate and creamy, polished tannins. Very melted and harmonized. Dark cherries, raspberries and orange peel come through beautifully with some stones. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc.

Dark purple colour with violet hue. Sophisticated nose with ripe blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants and mulberries, complemented by hints of peony. Beautiful fragrance on the nose, super perfumed and floral with sweet red fruits too, lifted and very welcoming. Creamy red cherries and bright strawberries. Round and filling, this has instant appeal with a generous push of crisp fruit but it’s more the texture and layering of elements here that is so wonderful. Feels precise and well detailed with finely woven tannins that have a connotation and almost thickness to them that many in the vintage don’t have. Classic, cool and super fresh but filled with crystalline fruit and so much elegance. Fun, fruity, stylish and just brilliant. Great mineral finish too. Fabulous. I visited Angélus during the harvest and saw first hand pristine berries. 3.65pH.

A gloriously frank (Cabernet) franc nose. So obviously Angélus, though it could almost be Hommage à Elizabeth Bouchet (the 100 per cent Cabernet Franc micro-cuvée)! Violet. Peony blooms. Grated dark single estate chocolate. Fruits of the forest. Damson. Black cherry. Blueberry and confit blueberry. A hint of frangipane. Cedar. Graphite. This is succulent and svelte on the layered entry – we move here from Carillon’s layers of silk to the grand vin’s pillows of velvet. Lots of depth and a wide and ample frame too, with gravitas coming from the chalky tannins that pull the bottom layers downwards and in the space that creates release both menthol and a wondrous juicy sapidity. This grows and grows in the mouth. Very precise and intensely detailed. Long and subtle, beautifully balanced and always fresh.

A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc aging 50% (Cabernet Franc) in foudre and the rest in new oak, the 2024 Château Angélus has a deeper ruby hue as well as a beautiful nose of black raspberries, cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and flowers. It's wonderfully pure, has medium-bodied richness, a focused yet incredibly elegant mouthfeel, and ultra-fine tannins. It's a beautiful, classy Angélus that might surprise with its longevity.
