This is a real wine geek's wine: it's aromatically discreet, so quite hard to describe, but has a hot slate aroma, it’s a very salty style. Generous on the palate with hints of apricot, but no great fruitiness – it’s very much about the lean, salty, slaty palate, with lovely acidity. A highly textural wine. Chapoutier now has just 2.5ha in Collioure, as yields are so low – just 8hl/ha in 2024. Grown on black schist that is 500 million years old, all co-planted.
