Italien Bertani collector's box: Bertani ON Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 0,75l rød
Parker zu 1967: This wine stands out and is one of my favorites in this historic retrospective. The Bertani 1967 Amarone della Valpolicella has evolved elegantly to show cola, licorice, dried prune and maraschino cherries. The bouquet remains bright, vertical and intense. I also like how the aromas are set against a less extracted mouthfeel underlined by finesse and complexity. Those cherry aromas add a touch of sweetness to the finish. This vintage is full of fun surprises. *** Parker zu 1975: This aged blend of red indigenous grapes from the Veneto region of Italy offers a throwback style that prizes fullness and some residual sweetness too. The Bertani 1975 Amarone della Valpolicella opens to a concentrated texture with forest floor, potting soil and wild mushroom. It sports a very earthy personality all said and done with fine-tuned structure. *** Parker zu 2005: The Bertani 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella stands alone because of its thick concentration and savory aromas of tarry spice, campfire ash and barbecue. Many of these qualities are distinctly linked to this vintage that produced very exuberant fruit with big berries and lots of sweetness. The clusters were picture-perfect at harvest time. This resulting wine is a little thick in texture and soft on the close. There's a lot of stuffing here with aromas of brandied plum and cherry liqueur.
