A highlight of the vintage is Frank Schönleber's 2019 Auf der Ley GG that will be auctioned. It is beautifully reductive and pure on the nose, displaying an intense but refined and elegant mirabelle aroma intertwined with flinty notes of crushed slate. Intense and juicy on the palate yet with the piquancy and pervasive salinity of crushed rocks, the Auf der Ley is a kind of hybrid of the Halenberg (richness, ripeness and power) and the Frühlingslätzchen (purity, grip, finesse and salinity). The richness of the Auf der Ley is so delicate and its finesse so substantial that this enormously long and concentrated (Auslese trocken) Riesling from perfectly ripe and healthy grapes can compete with the finest Kellerbergs or even Unendlichs from FX (Lucas) Pichler in the Wachau or any great Riesling from planet wine. Tasted as a sample in May 2020. 96-98/100

The 2019er Auf der Ley Riesling GG, as it is referred to on the front part of the label, comes from the prime “Lieu-Dit” (Gewann) Auf der Ley situated just above the Monzinger Halenberg, and within the Grosse Lage Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen The wine starts off on the restrained and focused side and only gradually reveals some stunning scents of greengage, minty herbs, white flowers, anise, yellow peach, and fresh grass. It proves beautifully focused and energetic on the refined, subtly smooth yet incredibly playful palate and leaves one with a remarkable sense of freshness and depth in the structured, superbly long, and almost opulent finish. This hugely impressive dry wine may eventually even exceed our high expectations as it develops finesse and precision with age. 2025-2034+. 95+/100
