Næsten ren cabernet fra Dominus-huset af Christian Moueix. Et nyt projekt fra Moueix på den gamle Schmidt-ranch nord for Napanook-Dominus-vinmarkerne, der ligger på den sydlige grænse af Oakville. Koldere om vinteren, varmere om sommeren. Lige ved siden af den berømte "Marthas Vineyard" og "To Kalon" fra Beckstoffer, velkendt terroir i dalen for fine vine fulde af finesse, men endnu mere for ekstremt dybe og rige, endda maskuline vine, Pauillac-stil fra Chateau Latour, helt anderledes end den ultrafine Dominus i Evangile-Pomerol-stil. Omhyggeligt modnet, mindre end 50 % ny fransk eg. Næsten purpurfarvet i dyb rød, tobak, cedertræ, cassis, brombær, appelsinskal, let lakrids, grafit, syren og lidt hindbær. Smuk chokoladenote i den fløjlsagtige, rige tannin. Fyldig og rig og alligevel fuld af spil, uendelig rig og lang i eftersmagen. Fantastisk. 100/100

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. Bright, powerful and pulsing with energy, the 2016 possesses stunning textural depth allied to a real sense of drive. Black cherry, tobacco, menthol, sage and licorice give this Cabernet from southern Oakville much of its distinctive personality. In this tasting, the 2016 Ulysses simply towers with pedigree and character. I loved it. Although the track record is short, the 2016 is the finest wine Christian Moueix and Tod Mostero have made at Ulysses. 98+/100

Napa Valley's 2016 growing season turned out a terrific vintage, with balanced wines capable of long term cellaring, and the Ulysses 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Oakville's best sites is no exception. This full-bodied red shows the power and finesse of the vintage, as the fantastic growing season imbued the fruit with perfect ripeness. Tasting this 2016 in May of 2024, it is still youthful and subtly teeming with youthful, crunchy blackberry and black cherry fruit, spiced plums, and fragrant tobacco and cedarwood spices. Even at first sip, the towering structure is evident, with tannins like firm vertical beams that build through a richness balanced by focused acidity that has a spicy edge. Nuances of dried flowers, sagebrush, and crushed river stones add intrigue, and the wine has a beautiful purity to it throughout, like a gorgeous Pauillac, bright and lifted and concentrated all at once.
