Perfect conditions for all the different varieties,' says enologist Matthieu Taunay of the 2016 season. Heavy rain on 10 June after a hot spring refreshed the vines and prepared them for a warm end to the summer. The result is a wine with a big black cherry nose, while the palate is intense and concentrated but well balanced with plenty of freshness. Textured and still-youthful, the ripe black fruits offer a degree of fleshiness and then a long, moreish finish. A blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, matured in French oak barrels (60% new) for 20 months. 95/100

This is showing a plethora of primary fruit at the moment, such as elderberries and brambleberries. But there’s some real complexity beneath, featuring roasted herbs and nettles. Full-bodied with impressive fruit, but firm tannins to back it up. Drink from 2021. 93/100

The Cabernet Franc-dominated 2016 Terra di Monteverro (there are small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) is a terrific wine from Jean Hoefliger. Aged 18 months in 60% new French oak, this medium to full-bodied, ripe, balanced effort has classic Cabernet Franc elegance and purity as well as lots of floral, forest floor, graphite, and blue fruit-driven aromas and flavors. Beautifully done, I suspect it’s capable of evolving for 10-15 years. 93/100

Parker om: Terra di Monteverro

The 2016 Terra di Monteverro (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot) is a great choice if you love blended reds from sunny Tuscany. This pretty expression is dark, exuberant, rich and fruit-forward. However, the wine is also characterized by that sense of focus and linearity that is the very definition of the classic 2016 vintage. Blackberry and black currant segue to spice, tar and smoked cedar. 93/100
