Sauvignon Blanc Kalk & Kreide Südsteiermark DAC
From 18- to 58-year-old vines on coralline limestone and loamy, calcareous marls, the just-bottled 2024 Kalk & Kreide Sauvignon Blanc is Tement's iconic Sauvignon from South Styria. Aged on the fine lees in stainless steel and large oak casks for six months, the first release of the monthly bottled wine opens with a sur lie nose of fresh and tonic lemon fruits and Williams pears intertwined with saline notes of crushed limestone. Medium-bodied, round and juicy on the palate, this is a savory, fresh and salivating, light and pure yet tensioned and always tonic Sauvignon classic with texture and a serious, age-worthy structure. After the rain week from September 9 to 14, the grapes were picked the second half of September with no botrytis at all thanks to the cool temperatures. This Sauvignon makes up 25% of the total volume of the domaine (which translates to 100,000–130,000 bottles per year). It sells for 20 euros ex-cellar. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2025.
