Kalamity er blevet et absolut ikon på meget kort tid efter at være blevet opdaget og hyldet af den internationale presse. Men al berømmelsen er velfortjent, for dette er virkelig gode, uafhængige ting! Oxers Rioja-vine er alligevel i en liga for sig selv, fri for enhver konvention. Ingen fedme eller overmodning, aldrig overvældet af træ, altid elegant, præget af terroir og præcis. En cuvée af Tempranillo, Granacha, Garnacha Blanca og Viura. Blandet blanding. Gamle vinstokke (90 år gamle) fra 7,2 hektar vinmarker i Laguardia, Elciego, El Vilar og Leza, som blev lagt helt om til økologisk landbrug for mange år siden. Oxer Bastegieta er ikke certificeret som økologisk, men lægger mindre vægt på det. Alt gæres spontant og samtidigt i flere måneder med delvist hele klaser og modnes derefter i 600 liters Stockinger-fade. Strengt begrænset! Ultrapræcis frugt, meget klar, morbær, cassis, også fine lædernuancer og tobak i baggrunden. Tæt sammenvævet og ret koncentreret, men den høje friskhed, denne enormt præcise kerne kommer altid igennem. Samme spil i munden - wow, sikke en drømmevin! Tæt, struktureret, enormt lang og fængslende. Kridtagtig, salt mineralitet i den lidt skarpe, uendeligt lange finish. Man kan se, at dette stadig er en slumrende kæmpe med enorm kraft og strålende tæthed, men samtidig omfavner den dig med sin smigrende tekstur og hedonistiske saftighed. Genial, virkelig stor, monumental, ukonventionel og alligevel charmerende moderne Rioja.

The red 2024 Kalamity was produced in 2014 from a field blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viura and Garnacha Blanca from very old vines in Elvillar, Laguardia and Camprovín harvested relatively early to avoid excess alcohol and to keep the acidity. The grapes were partly destemmed, partly crushed and partly fermented with full clusters in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and had two to three weeks of maceration. It matured in 600-liter oak barrels for 10 months. It has contained ripeness, 13.5%, and a balanced pH of 3.5. There is subtleness and elegance here, with lots of complexity, and it's perfumed, elegant and harmonious. There are flowers, wild herbs and some spiciness, but it's all very harmonious. I think harmony is the word for this vintage. There are abundant fine-grained, silky tannins, and there is fine acidity. This should age for a very long time, as there is great balance and harmony between all its components. 3,200 bottles were filled in September 2025.For Oxer Bastegieta, 2024 is a super vintage, fresher and finer-boned than 2023. He wants to emulate the old tradition of co-plantation and wines with character and freedom. There's a new red from Maturana Tinta, but it's always made, as he says, "my way," with much lower alcohol and surprisingly no pyrazines. He wants texture and freshness, which, for him, come from the cover crops, compost, microbiology of the soils, etc. He wants cleanliness, agility and precision in the wines. He has a co-plantation in the keyline system, 1.5 hectares in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rad at 600 meters on very chalky soils) and 1.5 hectares in Leza and 700 meters in altitude, which he described as his legacy for the future.
