The 2022 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Spätlese is clear, refined and intense on the concentrated, flinty and savory nose that shows ripe and lush mango aromas. Remarkably filigreed and saline on the palate, this crystalline Riesling is dense and lush yet also structured and persistent on the finish. This is a superb Kabinett. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026.

The 2022er Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Spätlese was fermented down to fully sweet levels of residual sugar. It proves quite reductive at first as some residues from its spontaneous fermentation (including sulfur and smoke) are still very much present at first. It then slowly reveals a captivating nose of wild herbs, lavender, almond, candied lime, anise, and lime tree. The wine is superbly playful and engaging. The mid-palate still shows some creamy sweetness in need of integration, yet the finish is already very pure and vibrating. What a splendid Spätlese, which even has some potential with time. 2037-2062 94+/100

The 2022 Riesling Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Spätlese is still under a slight veil of reduction. The palate then presents a serene cloud of gently sweet, creamy fruit aromatic with grapefruit skin, Mirabelle plum, an edge of Seville orange peel and a shimmer of white pepper. The sweetness is subtle and precise, framed with fine, mouth-watering lemon acidity. Absolute zestiness appears on the finish. (Sweet) 94/100

A significant surge of freshness and lively acidity finishes the wine wonderfully. 94/100
