This is a beautiful and complex wine with sliced apples, lemons, bread dough and salted pie crust. Some grass. Always subtle and complex yet shows intensity. Medium body. Lovely acid balance and an excellent finish. White pepper. Dry. Always excellent. Drink now. Screw cap.

Wine Enthusiast om: Section 94

From a single vineyard and aged in old French oak, this wine—always one of New Zealand's most distinctive Sauvignon Blancs—opens with intensely reductive, sulfuric aromas of struck match, grilled nuts over a smoky fire and buttered toast. The fruit comes on the second beat, with whiffs of baked lemon and passion fruit. Then, on the palate, it all seems to coalesce, with bright acidity, a rich, creamy texture and concentrated flavors pulsing to a very long finish. A love-it-or-hate-it style, but a well-made drop in any case.

Parker om: Section 94

The 2020 Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc is ripe (14% alcohol), but it carries it so well. The wine is weighty (emphasized by time in older oak barrels) and wide—there is a smoky/dusty/earthy/campfire sort of character in the background, while the fruit reaches from kiwi, green apple, lemon flesh, lemongrass, tatami mat, enoki mushroom and even hints of white miso. While the estate Sauvignon Blanc is elegant, lean and refined, this is powerful, complex and expansive. This is a wine that will drink better in the future than it does now—the structuring and inherent power make for an exciting future discussion. Sealed under screw cap. 93+/100

Wine Spectator om: Section 94

Aromatic, complex, succulent and fleshy, offering flavors of beeswax, litsea oil and peach preserves, with candied ginger and honeysuckle accents. A whiff of smoke mingles with the crisp citrus and herbal notes at the lip-smacking core. Drink now through 2034.

Dog Point
