Jeb Dunnuck om: Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

Moving to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape from bottle, the 2016 vintage was described as having the power of 2010 and similar to yet fresher than 2007. The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers a great bouquet of black raspberries, tapenade, crushed violets, and spring flowers, and shares lots of similarities to the Chaupin cuvée (and it’s less expensive!). Full-bodied, incredibly elegant and seamless, it might be the finest traditional cuvée ever produced from this estate. 99/100

Parker om: Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

Time will tell if this wine equals the stellar 2015; it's certainly very close in quality. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is a blend of approximately 75% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre, 8% Syrah and the rest other permitted varieties. Tarry and deep on the nose, it delivers waves of blackberries and black cherries on the palate, framing those flavors with plenty of richness, layers of silky tannins and a long, elegant finish. 97+/100

International Wine Report om: Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

The 2016 ‘Vieilles Vignes’ is an absolutely fantastic showing in this vintage, composed of predominately old-vine Grenache with a percent of Syrah and Mourvèdre finishing the blend. As this slowly begins to unwind in the glass it displays wonderful aromatics of black raspberry coulis and blueberries which are woven together with spices, herbs, black olives, earthy minerals and hints of smoke all taking shape. On the palate this full-bodied red is well-structured with excellent overall concentration and depth through the long finish. This shows incredible potential, but like some of its peers, this will require some significant cellaring. Nonetheless, this is an utterly fascinating wine that should continue to evolve beautifully and drink exceedingly well in due time. 97/100

Suckling om: Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

There’s a very intense core of dark fruit. A deep, ripe and quite savory palate with spices and dark herbs. Bitter chocolate, too. Real depth and power here. Super-fresh, dark spice and cola give a real spark to the finish. Thrilling. A blend of four old-vine parcels from a variety of soils. Drink in 2020. 96/100

Galloni om: Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

Opaque ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented blackberry and cherry aromas are complemented by incense, licorice and potpourri flourishes. Supple, sweet and impressively concentrated, offering palate-staining red and dark berry, cherry liqueur, fruitcake and lavender pastille flavors braced by a core of juicy acidity. Plush yet surprisingly lithe for its brawn, showing a suave floral note and outstanding clarity and velvety tannins on the strikingly long, smoke- and spice-tinged finish. 96/100

Wine Spectator om: Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

This is packed with plum, raspberry and blackberry confiture flavors that are youthfully wound up, while warm stone, anise, bay leaf, garrigue and tar notes fill in throughout. Dense but juicy, with a long, smoldering feel on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2040. 97/100
