2010 på Montrose anses for at være en af de største årgange, der nogensinde er produceret på dette slot. Cuvéen består af 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc og 1% Petit Verdot. På Montrose er udvælgelsen også meget omhyggelig efter høsten, og kun de bedste fade - og dermed kun ca. 60 % af produktionen - bliver tappet på flaske som førstevin i denne årgang. Wow - bare det at kigge ned i glasset er en oplevelse i sig selv! Dybsort med et rubinrødt skær, let gennemskinneligt og meget skinnende. Meget tætvævet, aromatisk næse. Præget af meget intense, søde røde og sorte kirsebær, næsten lidt kirsebærlikør eller Mon Chéri. Altid dette fine grafitslør på toppen. Så tilføjes langsomt lidt cassis og brombær. Alt forbliver på den søde, koncentrerede, men samtidig utroligt charmerende side. Et strejf af marcipan og mørk chokolade. Med lidt luft bliver det hele en anelse mere krydret med lakrids, tobaksblade og cedertræ. Men den forbliver altid charmerende og aromatisk kraftfuld. Det første indtryk af kirsebær fortsætter i munden: søde røde kirsebær igen, samt sorte kirsebær og moreller. Først er den så forførende lækker, at man har lyst til at lægge sig i den, men så tager den virkelig fart. Masser af greb og bid, race, høj syre. Røde ribs veksler med sød, mørk bærfrugt. Enormt levende, den får munden til at løbe i vand. Et eller andet sted krævende, men så forførende lækker på samme tid - vanvittigt! Men stadig så utrolig ung og kompakt. Fantastisk længde, bliver hængende på ganen i noget, der føles som minutter med sin fine sødme og stenede mineralitet. Den er først lige begyndt at blive rigtig sjov, men lidt luft og store glas vil gøre den rigtig godt i øjeblikket. I lighed med den legendariske 1990 er dette en vin for evigheden og en af de største Montrose, jeg nogensinde har smagt. 100/100

The 2010 Montrose is composed of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a lot of swirling and coaxing to bring out notes of baked plums, boysenberry preserves, warm cassis, and licorice, followed by hints of mocha, tapenade, crushed rocks, and cast-iron pan. The full-bodied palate has a formidable structure of very firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the voluptuous black fruit and mineral layers, finishing long, long, long.

The 2010 Château Montrose is just now starting to drink well, though bottles from my cellar remain stubbornly backward and closed. This showing, however, revealed rocking levels of cassis, graphite, spring flowers, crushed stone, and spicy leather. Full-bodied, incredibly pure, and balanced, it has a seamless mouthfeel, tons of ripe tannins, and a gorgeous, layered finish. It’s a riveting, multi-dimensional Montrose that ranks with the true greats of the vintage. It deserves another decade of bottle age and will see the turn of the century in fine form. Drink 2035-2100.

Parker om: Chateau Montrose 2eme Cru

This is considered to be among the greatest vintages ever made in Montrose, right up with the 1929, 1945, 1947, 1959, 1961, 1989, 1990 and 2009. Harvest was October 15 to 17. The wine has really come on since I last tasted it, and it needs at least another 10 years of cellaring. The blend was 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is opaque black/blue, with an incredible nose of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, with hints of incense, licorice, and acacia flowers. Tannins are incredibly sweet and very present. The wine is full-bodied, even massive, with great purity, depth and a finish that goes on close to a minute. This is a 50- to 75-year-old wine that will repay handsomely those with good aging genes. I certainly dropped the ball on this wine in its youth. But I get it now. Holy Cow! The wine is black, almost opaque in color. There is so much concentration, you can almost eat it with a spoon. The wine is powerful, yet clearly refined. It's dense, intense, full bodied and rich, simultaneously remaining in perfect balance and harmony. With mouth coating levels of intensity, the finish must last 60 seconds. Not as flashy or fleshy as the opulent 2009, yet it's at the same level of quality in a different style. 100/100

This is up there with the best of the tastings, just nods past the 2009. Less generous perhaps but here you see the beauty and precision of the construction, and the ability to just knock the fruit and tannins out of the park - I love both, but this has the edge in terms of juice, and the Left Bank classicism of bilberry, cassis, olive, mint leaf, graphite, scraping texture and vertical lift on the finish.
