Heiner Lobenberg om:
Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru 2016
/100
Barton i topform.

Parker om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
A brilliant young wine, the 2016 Léoville Barton unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis, dark berries and cigar box mingled with subtle hints of loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's seamless and exquisitely balanced, with beautifully refined tannins, bright acids and a long, penetrating finish. Its structural refinement is such that it's far from forbidding to open right now, yet patience will be richly rewarded. 97/100

Suckling om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
Aromas of walnuts, dried cherries, dried herbs and a subtle touch of wet earth. Medium- to full-bodied, with an elegant profile of focused yet fleshy fruit supported by precise tannins that give the wine definition. Approachable now, but will improve with a couple of years of cellaring. Better after 2027. 10 Years On retrospective.

Wine Enthusiast om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
This is a powerful wine, with superb tannins and blackberry fruits. It has a dense texture allied to stylish fruitiness and acidity. The result is a wine with the potential to age over a long period of time, while probably showing well starting in 2028. 97–99/100

International Wine Report om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
The 2016 Château Léoville Barton is utterly captivating in this vintage. It is composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot opens to pretty aromatics of currants and red berries woven together with sweet exotic spices, pipe tobacco, graphite and fresh florals all releasing from the glass. On the palate this medium-full bodied Saint-Julien continues to impress with its gorgeous plush texture and supportive tannins, along with its outstanding overall concentration. It displays remarkable balance of ripe fruit and bright acidity through the long, precise finish. This has it all, and while it will certainly require some significant cellaring readers will certainly be rewarded in due time with an absolutely beautiful wine. 97/100

Jane Anson om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
Austere but confident, firm muscular tannins, this needs a good few moments of opening before the softer side appears, with creamy blackberry fruits with spiced rosemary and cumin notes alongside cedar, mint leaf, coffee bean and licorice. This makes it slapbang in the middle of classic Leoville Barton territory, and this is one to get on board with. Delicious, understated, savoury, boom. 60% new oak.

Jeb Dunnuck om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
Deep purple-colored and a classic Saint-Julien with its pure crème de cassis, graphite, liquid rock, and essence of lead pencil shavings, the 2016 Château Léoville Barton is full-bodied, concentrated, and backward, with bright acidity and ripe yet certainly present and building tannins. This old-school, classic Léoville Barton has a fine thread of acidity keeping the wine focused and fresh. It’s a beauty, but mostly potential at this point, although it does have beautiful fruit. Savvy readers will hide bottles at the back of their cellar, and I wouldn’t start to think about opening bottles for a least a decade. It’s going to be incredibly long-lived. The blend of the 2016 is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot, brought up in 60% new French oak. 96/100

Wine Spectator om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
The core of fruit flavor here is sappy and dense, with lots of kirsch, raspberry pâte de fruit and plum reduction notes, yet this stays fresh and racy overall, with a bright iron spine, flashes of tea and tobacco and a long finish that shows a wonderful infusion of alder and tobacco flavors. Offers a lovely combination of prodigious fruit details, with a tug of earth. 96/100

Galloni om: Chateau Leoville Barton 2eme Cru
The 2016 Léoville-Barton is fabulous. A wine of breadth and power, the 2016 has so much to offer. The black cherry, chocolate, gravel, smoke and licorice flavors are all boldly sketched. A host of expressive savory and mineral notes develop into the substantial finish. 96/100
Leoville Barton
