The Wine Palate om: Chateau Gruaud Larose 2eme Cru

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Gruaud Larose needs a little shaking to wake up notes of crushed blackcurrants and wild blueberries, followed by hints of camphor, baker’s chocolate, vanilla, and candied violets. The light-bodied palate offers a compelling, quiet intensity of black fruit and floral layers, framed by wonderfully silky tannins and a refreshing line, finishing long and whispery. Very pretty! The blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5% Merlot, and 2.5% Cabernet Franc, with a pH of 3.80.

A muscular Gruaud. Chewy and structured, with black currant, flint, thyme and spice aromas that follow through to a medium to full body and plenty of tannins that are not overpowering. Needs time to soften. Best after 2028.
