Medium kirsebærfrugt. Slank smag med kort eftersmag. Flot, men desværre ikke længere i de måske for tidlige 24. Bliver snart lækker. ***. Denne tredje cru har et lidt køligere, men klassisk grus-sand terroir i Margaux-appellationen. Naboen til Château Palmer. Mere præcist i landsbyen Issan, som den er opkaldt efter. Traditionel stil. Issan er noget grøn og uinteressant i kølige og våde år. I gode og varme år kan den dog - ligesom nogle af sine andre kolleger i Margaux - komme til sin ret. Château Palmers nabo har været på en stejl stigning i årevis. Den har en meget klassisk, gammeldags etiket, men vinen bliver bedre og bedre fra år til år. Sammen med Palmer og Lascombes er det helt sikkert den bedste vingård i Issan. Dybest set THE insider tip i appellationen.

Suckling om: Chateau d' Issan 3eme Grand Cru

This vintage shows lovely minerality and excellent red currants, red cherries and stones. Such vibrancy, youthfulness and energy. Not a wine of immense depth, but I like the chalky tannins that provide vibration and length. Mostly cabernet sauvignon with merlot, malbec and petit verdot.

Decanter om: Chateau d' Issan 3eme Grand Cru

Dark chocolate, blackcurrant leaf. Some savoury wet earth, chocolate tobacco elements and some crushed stones aromatics. Chewy, bright and tangy - this has a good fleshy aspect with concentrated fruit and lifted aromas. Clean and focused with blueberry and some red cherry with black chocolate and liquorice aspects too. It’s svelte for sure, but refined with super fine tannins and an overall sense of charm. There’s juiciness all the way to the finish too which is great. 2% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot complete the blend. 3.20pH. 50% new oak.

Gracious in its florality. Peony, iris, the bulbs of both. Black cherry and cassis, a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon leafiness too. Blackcurrant leaf. Cedar. Walnut shell. This is tightly-wound and spherical at the core, increasing the sensation of intensity in the mouth. Violets with aeration. Taut, tense, chewy, a lovely svelte and fine-grained tannin. Impressive if not quite at the same level of purity as the 2020 or 2022. Exquisite nonetheless.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Leaps with bold notes of black and red cherries and cassis, giving way to hints of iris, tapenade, and mint tea. The light-bodied palate is delicately styled with compelling freshness and silky tannins, finishing on a lingering red berry note.

Galloni om: Chateau d' Issan 3eme Grand Cru

The 2024 d'Issan is pretty closed in on itself. Issan is usually a showier wine at this stage, but the 2024 is decidedly virile, almost somber in feel. Floral, spice and earthy notes open with some coaxing, and yet the Grand Vin is only showing a fraction of what it has to offer. I do admire its strong character, however. The 2024 will be a fascinating Issan to follow.

The 2024 Château Issan is composed of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34.5% Merlot, and small amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Offering notes of currants, spice, cedar pencil, and spring flowers, it's medium-bodied and ultra-pure on the palate, with fine-grained tannins and a finesse-driven style. The balance here is spot on.

Chateau d' Issan er helt sikkert en af de mest berømte vingårde i Medoc. Den ligger i Margaux-appellationen i landsbyen Issan, som vingården er opkaldt efter. Den har været klassificeret som en 3eme Cru siden 1855.
