En generøs Sauvignon Blanc. Alto Adige har generelt en tendens til at vise Loire-karakteristika i denne druesort, men Cantina Terlan går endnu længere. Den lange tid på gæren i en blanding af ståltanke, 500 liters egetræsfade og store træfade giver ekstra cremethed og en fyldig mundfølelse, næsten Bordeaux-agtig. Grapefrugt, moden vinmarksfersken, cremet safran og lime. Jeg kommer også til at tænke på te med citrongræs. En næsten fantastisk Sauvignon Blanc, den bedste i Italien, aldrig for påtrængende og meget langtidsholdbar. Men den har brug for tid. Den fine tekstur er voldsom, ligefrem og mineralsk. Ultraforfriskende og stabil, animerende med høj syre.

Restrained and mineral, this is focused on sage and gooseberries with lemon-pulp aromas and flavors. The medium-bodied palate is vibrant and zesty yet balanced by just enough weight. Polished finish. Drink or hold.

From a few selected plots where the soil has a high quartz content, Quarz is fermented in a combination of large wooden barrels and stainless steel, and spends a further nine months on the fine lees. Full, broad and ripe yet showing restraint too with just a light breath of thiols, this is juicy and super-intense. The balance is there though, and the alcohol and acidity sit well within the frame. Very well modulated and surprisingly drinkable, this should also age very well.

The Cantina Terlano 2023 Alto Adige Terlano Sauvignon Quarz (with 55,000 bottles made) offers a slightly softer and less exuberant interpretation of the grape compared to the Winkl, which is all about brightness and primary fruit. The Quarz shows more depth and complexity thanks to a focus on fruit exclusively from steep vineyards (with 10% to 40% inclines at 300 to 550 meters in elevation). It sees a slow ferment with controlled temperatures, and it ages on the fine lees for nine months in a combination of large oak cask and stainless steel.
