Denne eksklusive blanding af ni årgange af den legendariske Löwengang Chardonnay blev modnet separat af vingården Lageder i træfade indtil 2023. Hvert år blev den bedste tønde Löwengang holdt tilbage i kælderen. I glasset er vinen en delikat gylden gul med et strejf af sølv; den cremede tekstur på kanten af glasset antyder allerede vinens ekstraktrige tæthed. Jeg smagte vinen over to dage - en spændende oplevelse! Vinen gennemgik en dramatisk udvikling og blev tættere og mere intens fra time til time. Alene næsen er forførende cremet med brioche, vanilje og lidt krydret tonkabønne. Saftige, modne røde æbler med kvæde, banan og krydret græskar. I munden kan man smage den lange lagring på træ gennem komplekse smagsnuancer: Vanilje, et strejf af kokos, kanel og ristede hasselnødder. Friskheden er levende, næsten prikkende intens. Bagt rødt æble med appelsin og kumquat. Vinen har en delikat fornemmelse og en vidunderlig salthed i munden - den bliver hængende i flere minutter. Udgivelsen af vinen er en unik "one-off", selvfølgelig er den kun tilgængelig i en absolut minimumsmængde og strengt begrænset.

True to Alois Lageder's form, this wine is something out of the ordinary: a multi-vintage blend of barrel-aged Alto Adige Chardonnay. In fact, it's so interesting (and delicious) that I've nominated it as one of my Wines of the Year for 2023. Combining components from 2013 through to 2021 which have aged in neutral oak barrels, this second edition of the concept is nutty and creamy with a buttery edge, cut by a lick of lime. Soft, rich and round, there's an intense core of juicy orange and citrus peel with an oxidative Sherry-like complexity, showing lovely texture and a bright, saline and gastronomic character which rings out on the long finish. Only 3,000 bottles of this edition will be released, so if you see it on a wine list, buy it!

Oxidative style for this chardonnay, which is a blend of vintages from 2013 to 2021. Quince, apples, wax, lanolin, leaves and fresh pears. Mellow on the palate, with a medium body, zesty acidity and a tight-knit structure. Super complex with layered fruit and a savory, chalky, minerally aftertaste. Drink or hold.

An intriguing, salty white, with generosity and rich depth of flavor but a racy vibrancy and energy. This is ripe and fragrant at first, with notes of apple peel and bruised apple, dried mint and ground mace that transition to poached peach, orange peel and chopped hazelnut flavors. Deftly honed, integrated acidity provides definition and focus through to the expansive finish. Chardonnay. A blend of nine vintages, from 2013 to 2021. Drink now through 2034. 94/100

The Alois Lageder NV Alto Adige Chardonnay Löwengang Inedito II is a new wine that vintner Alois Clemens Lageder feels very strongly about. In fact, he personally delivered this sample that I tasted in a shiner bottle to my office in Rome. This is a generous expression of Chardonnay that, despite its soft fruit and intensity, sticks to a very precise and linear presentation. Alto Adige whites have this gift of counterintuitive sharpness and richness delivered in seamless union. It unfolds softly to the palate with creamy sensations of peach, baked apple and light cinnamon spice. Inedito II is an assembly of wine deliberately held back each year from a few select Löwengang Chardonnay parcels. This edition represents fruit from nine vintages, with the oldest being 2013. It matured in oak casks for nine years.
