Lobenberg: Das Meisterstück von Eben Sadie, sein genialster Wein und zugleich schwierig zu verstehen in seiner fruchtigen Hypereleganz. Der Name Columella stammt von einem römischen Viticulturist, der die Grundlagen für den Weinbau entwickelte und niederschrieb. Der Columella besitzt ein kräftiges Rubinrot mit violetten Reflexen. 18 Monate wurde dieser als Ganztraube vergorene Biowein mit ultrakleinen Erträgen auf der Hefe in Eichenholz-Fässern ausgebaut, burgundisches Rezept. Dabei wurde komplett auf neue Fässer verzichtet, neben 225-l-Fässern gab es auch große Holzfuder. Volle Struktur, sehr elegant mit einladender Fruchtsüße. Lakritze, Brombeeren und Cassis und Kirsche, auch Pflaume und Erde im Hintergrund. Im Mund auch Erdbeere, Rose und Orange, so ultrafein und vielschichtig. Charmante, komplett polierte Tannine runden die gute Trinkigkeit des Columella ab. Das Finale dieses Finessemonsters ist ewig lang und trotzdem wirkt dieser lagerfähige Wein überaus leichtfüßig, fast verspielt. In einer Blindprobe hätte ich den femininen Wein in Californiens hohen Bergen eingeordnet, Philipp Togni könnte der Patenonkel sein. 97-98+/100

Lush and rich but still extremely young, offering outstanding breadth and silky texture to its flavors of red fruits and flinty minerality. The most enveloping vintage yet for Columella: this wine combines the best traits of the 2008 and 2009 and then takes them to a higher level. Finishes classically dry, with noble fine-grained tannins and great fruity persistence. This one hit my G-spot. Like a hypothetical blend of grand cru Burgundy and Chateau Rayas. 97+?/100

-- Parker: The 2010 Columella saw just 10% of the crop aged in new large casks. The nose is well-defined and as nonchalant as Eben Sadie himself, gently unravelling blackberry, charcoal, eau-de-vie and allspice scents that are perfectly controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly grainy tannins. It is extremely well-balanced with supremely well-judged acidity. I much prefer this toned-down style of late, allowing the grape varieties and terroir to be articulated without interruption. Gorgeous! Drink 2014-2022. 93/100
