Lobenberg: Schöne Nase nach satten, frischen Erdbeeren und etwas Sauerkirschen. Im Mund ungeheuer klare Frucht, wieder hoch aromatische Erdbeere, daneben etwas Paprika, klare, kühle Aromen, mittlerer Körper und niedriger Alkoholgehalt. Leichter und frischer Fruchtgenuss pur, dabei so intensiv, fast berauschend. Unglaubliche Ähnlichkeit mit der Cabernet Franc. Kann auch prima leicht gekühlt getrunken werden. 90/100

-- John Gilman: -- Gilman: The Gaba do Xil bottling of Mencía from Telmo Rodriguez is his workhorse example of this varietal, raised entirely in stainless steel tanks prior to bottling and designed for early drinking. The 2012 is a lovely wine, coming in at a cool thirteen percent, but as it was raised all in stainless, it is a touch reductive when first poured and really benefits nicely from a bit of air. With aeration the wine offers up a lovely bouquet of sweet dark berries, tree bark, stony soil tones, lovely botanicals, woodsmoke and a touch of juniper in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, tangy and well-balanced, with a fine core of fruit, lovely complexity, a bit of tannin and fine length and grip on the focused finish. This is really a lovely wine, which despite being crafted to drink on the young side, shows the structure to also age quite nicely and I would have no problems keeping this around in the cellar for another fifteen years. High class juice and a fine value. 90/100

-- Galloni: Brilliant ruby-red. Ripe red berries, cola and candied rose on the fragrant nose, with hints of white pepper and smoky minerals adding lift. Juicy, gently sweet raspberry and cherry flavors are framed and braced by tangy acidity. Delivers strong flavor punch but comes off as lithe, finishing with firm bite and silky tannins. -- Josh Raynolds 90/100

-- Parker: An entry-level, un-oaked red, the 2012 Gaba do Xil Mencía is sourced from old vineyards on granite soils at 550 meters altitude that has other grapes intermixed as it was the norm in the old times. It was fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. The nose shows a mixture of wild berries and aromatic herbs which is very attractive and typical. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate acidity, clean and intense, quite straightforward. The nose improves quite a lot with time in the glass, so I'd recommend to open and decant the bottle in advance. The 40,000 bottles.
