Tameran Listan Negro
There is a new red 2022 Listán Negro from grapes purchased from old vines in the village of San Mateo, a higher-altitude zone of the island, more specifically in the place known as Lomo de los Ingleses. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in plastic bins and matured in used 228- and 500-liter oak barrels for 10 months. It has 11.8% alcohol, good freshness and moderate acidity, and it's quite perfumed and aromatic, spicy and herbal, with notes of volcanic ash. It has some slightly dusty tannins and a medium body. 1,560 bottles were filled in September 2023. 92/100 *** Tamerán is the name of the winery in Gran Canaria from footballer David Silva, who recently retired from the sport. Jonatan García from Suertes del Marqués in Tenerife is in charge of the wines. 2020 was the first vintage, and they finished building the winery in 2021. Silva has six hectares of vines in production and a further 1.5 of new plantings in the village of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In 2022, they bought some grapes from the zone and also from the north of the island, in the higher-altitude village of San Mateo. They harvest early (they are in the south of the island, a warmer zone), and they block malolactic. Production is 16,000 bottles.
