Lobenberg: Diese Jahrgangskiste enthält je zwei Flaschen der grandiosen Jahrgänge 2006, 2007 und 2009, direkt ex Chateau Schatzkammer im April 2020 gepackt. – 2006: Alles in allem perfekte Harmonie ausstrahlend. Kommt fein und charmant mit gutem Druck und schöner Frische, ohne Ecken und Kanten, ohne Rustikalität. Einfach nur fein fließend. Auch hier wieder Kaffee- und Kakaobohnen, Sauerkirsche, schwarze Kirsche. Aber alles sehr fein strömend. Große Länge. Harmonie in einer Perfektion, wie selten zu finden. Diese perfekt balancierte Form von Chateauneuf du Pape findet man nur äußerst selten. Anders als in manch anderem Jahrgang kein Wein für die extremen Krafttrinker, sondern für Finesse- und Harmonieliebhaber. Sicherlich einer der ganz großen in der Historie (96-97+/100). – 2007: Aus der Privatreserve des Chateau nachgekauft, der Wein hat sich bei perfekter Lagerung grandios entwickelt. 2007 war eben auch ein grandioses Jahr, viel besser als damals von mir probiert. In der Nase deutet sich die Fruchtsüße der alten Grenache bereits an. Dahinter ein Hauch von Marzipan und Dörrobst. Am Gaumen changiert er zwischen Fülle und Eleganz hin und her. Doch vom Körper her müsste man ihn zu den robusteren Chateauneuf rechnen, der hohe Mourvedre-Anteil wird hier zum Tragen gekommen sein. Die Fruchtaromen sind noch etwas verschlossen, doch Pflaume, Sandelholz und Trüffel sind schon zu identifizieren. Ein klassischer und großer Chateauneuf in der immer sehr eigenständigen Beaucastel-Typizität mit dieser speziellen Mourvedre-Dominanz und vollem Körper, tief verführerischem Abgang und immensem Potential (97+/100). – 2009: Aus der Chateaureserve gekauft, perfekt gelagert und großartig entwickelt. Der Wein ist dunkelrot mit ganz leichten Schwarzreflexen. In der Farbe stark erinnernd an einen dichten Burgunder. Auch die Nase ist extrem burgundisch. Hier Anklänge an Chambertin Grand Cru. Etwas weniger Himbeere, dafür Erdbeere, Zwetschgenschalen, auch ein kleiner Hauch Johannisbeere darunter. Extrem duftig. Üppiges Aromenbild und hocharomatisch, ungewöhnlich charmant für Beaucastel, ungewöhnlich einnehmend. Das Aromenbild entwickelt sich von Waldhimbeere hin zu schwarzen Früchten, vornehmlich Brombeere, ganz zart. Im Mund fällt sofort das extrem geschliffene Tannin auf, zusammen mit intensiver Säure ergibt das eine wunderbare Frische und ein komplexes Spiel. Alles bleibt immer auf der Finesse-Seite. Sehr fein, sehr tänzelnd, feiner Bitterstoff streicht über den Gaumen. Der Wein ist extrem lang und auf jeden Fall vorne mit dabei (96/100).

-- Wine Spectator: 2006: Powerful, with a round, almost creamy core of blackberry and raspberry fruit all layered with cocoa, sweet toast, mesquite and fig paste. Long and rich through the finish. Still quite primal, with lots in reserve. 95/1002007: Extremely dense, with layer upon layer of melted fig, mulled boysenberry and black currant fruit, all laced with notes of charred mesquite, hoisin sauce and Kenya AA coffee. The long, silky mouthfeel belies the latent power in reserve-and there's a lot of it, with waves of grip driving the finish. 96/1002009: One of the more endowed 2009s, this is packed with dark smoldering cocoa, mesquite, tobacco and roasted fig notes, all inlaid with pure cassis and plum preserves fruit flavors. Long and authoritative on the finish, with singed vanilla bean and tar notes adding length and dimension. 96/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: 2006: A fantastic wine, the 2006 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape fleshes out with air and displays deep, earthy aromatics of dark fruit, roasted meat, graphite, mushroom and old wood. In the mouth, the wine displays a medium to full bodied, structured personality to go with a fantastic texture, concentrated fruit and a long finish. If drinking anytime soon this needs plenty of air. 94+/1002007: A straight up, phenomenal wine, this bottle of 2007 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape was double decanted (poured into a decanter and then back into the bottle) 12 hours prior to drinking and boasted gorgeous aromatics (blackberry, cassis, lavender, garrigue and roasted meat), full bodied power, serious concentration and unreal purity. Very polished and almost civilized by Beaucastel standards, this beauty should drink beautifully for 3 decades. Wow. 96+/1002009: The 2009 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape had just been bottled at the time of the tasting but you wouldn’t know it by tasting it. A blend of 30% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and 20% assorted varieties, the wine delivers a superb aromatic display of kirsch and black cherry-like fruits to go with a solid dose of underlying meat, truffle, earth, and leather. Full-bodied and gorgeously concentrated through the middle, with fleshy, ripe fruit, good acidity, and an abundance of structure, this will ideally be left alone for 7-8 years and then consumed over the following two decades. 96/100

-- Parker: 2006: As for the 2006 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape, it is a top-notch success and one of the vintage's top wines. A big, sweet, beefy nose intermixed with truffles, tree bark, fresh mushrooms, blackberry and black currants as well as some road tar jumps from the glass of this dense ruby/purple-colored wine. The wine has terrific fruit on the attack, medium to full body, very concentrated flavors, and moderate tannin in the finish. This is a strong Mourvedre-based cuvee that needs 4-6 years of bottle age and should last 25-30 years. 95/1002007: Beaucastel’s 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out even better out of bottle than I predicted. An inky/ruby/purple color is followed by a glorious nose of blue and black fruits, truffles, pen ink, licorice, and meat juices as well as glorious levels of acidity and sweet tannin, buttressing the fruit’s fabulous freshness and vibrancy. This full-bodied effort still displays considerable tannin, no doubt because of the relatively high Mourvedre content. It should resolve its tannins in 2-4 years, and last for 25 or more. 96/1002009: The 2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape is reminiscent of their brilliant 1985. It will be one of the rare Beaucastels that is drinkable upon release. Made from this estate’s classic blend, it possesses soft tannins as well as a silky, open-knit seductiveness, a dense plum/purple color and a beautiful perfume of smoky Provencal herbs intermixed with grilled steak juices, garrigue, kirsch and blue as well as black fruits. The wine is full-bodied, unctuously textured, and silky smooth (the latter characteristic being somewhat atypical for a young Beaucastel). If it performs like the 1985, it will drink well young and continue to do so for 25 or more years. 94/100
